Disaster Strikes!
Well, we found out the hard way that dropping the boat on the center wheel of the trailer is a bad idea - we managed to crack the hull (sorry about that Gary - we promise to fix it) - through enough to start a 3" hole (when the splintered wood was cleaned out) -
ouch!
So, we managed to take cosmetic blemishes to a new level. So it looks like we will move up the bottom job in the schedule a bit as we'd like to see if we can sail one of these things. With a bit of fiberglass mat, and with a little help from our friend Mr. Epoxy, hopefully we'll have this taken care of in reasonably short order. Initial repair will focus on the outer hull as we'd like to get sailing rather than primping. We're planning on putting a wide fiberglass mat along the length of the boat so it's strengthened all the way, a good idea anyway given the boat's age.
Other learnings include the need to modify the trailer so there are no pressure points that can crack the hull. Getting it back to Petaluma was no problem as we had it sturdily strapped with the center wheel on the V of the hull where it's strongest but when we shifted it....
